Halloween Sausage Mummies
Quick and easy spooky fun with sausages and puff pastry
Ingredients
- 6 large dairy-free pork sausages I used Asda Extra Special 6 Pork Sausages
- 1 sheet / block ready rolled puff-pasty I used Jus-Rol
- 1 egg (for glazing)
- edible eyes (Try Asda, baking aisle)
- A little maple syrup, golden syrup or honey to stick eyes
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 200C (180 Fan) or Gas 6.
- Cut 6 x 1 cm wide strips from the ready rolled pastry strips.
- Wrap a strip around each of the sausages. Don't worry if there are gaps as you wrap the pastry. Place them on a baking sheet.
- Glaze pastry with a little beaten egg.
- Cook in the pre-heated oven for 25-30 minutes, depending on the cooking time for your sausages.
- Allow to stand for a few minutes before adding the eyes. I found they did not need sticking down but you could use honey, golden syrup, maple syrup or similar if required. You only need a small dab on the back of the eye.
Notes
You can adapt this recipe to suit the type of sausages you are cooking. You could use chipolatas or frankfurters if they are dairy-free. You would need to reduce the cooking time for smaller sausages but the pastry would still need approx 20 minutes to cook.
If you cannot find the edible eyes you could use dairy-free cream cheese and olives as a substitute. They are only for decoration and don't need to be eaten!
