So, it’s Friday, which means it’s time to look a little more closely at one product in particular, with a supermarket round-up. This Dairy-Free Friday product is the much-loved Jaffa Cake. This may or may not be helpful to you. If you LOVE Jaffa Cakes and are ok with “may contain” warnings then you could be in for a treat.
Check out the supermarket aisles
Sadly, the much loved by many, well-known brand of Jaffa Cakes, contain milk. However, did you know that there are plenty of dairy-free Jaffa Cakes in the supermarket aisles. I’ve just done a quick check of online shopping to check what is available. The following supermarkets all have own brand Jaffa Cakes available, but they all carry a main contain or are not suitable for milk allergy warning: Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Morrisons, Aldi, Asda, Waitrose (mini Jaffa Cakes).
I couldn’t see any on Iceland’s website. I’m unsure about Lidl as I am unable to check the ingredients online but I will check next time a go there and will update this post.
I’ve decided to challenge myself to making a dairy-free Jaffa Cake. Not sure how that is going to work out yet but watch this space. I’ll post the recipe and results if I manage to make one!
Whilst I appreciate this post may not help if you cannot have “may contain” products, I think it always helps to be reminded that you do not always need to heas straight for the Free From aisles!
NOTE: As with all products, manufacturers can and do change ingredients without warning. You should check the label each and every time, even if you think you know it is safe. Always follow your own doctor’s medical advice.
