BOO! Here’s another idea for some dairy-free Halloween fun. I cannot take credit for the original idea but it’s easy and fun for kids and adaptable to be dairy-free. A few basic ingredients and ready-rolled puff pastry are all you need.
- Great to make with children
- Easy to make
- Perfect for parties
- Pop them in a lunch box
- Simple ingredients that don’t cost a fortune
Halloween party fun.
These cute little pizzas are SO easy to make and are really fun. There are endless possibilities on what to fill them with too. Halloween can be frustrating and difficult when your child is dairy-free so I am always looking for ways to add to the fun. I am especially keen to find things that are fun and inclusive for everyone. These tick all the boxes. I used readily available ingredients from the supermarket and the chances are you may have some of the ingredients in your store cupboard anyway. You can use the dairy-free cheese of your choice but we went with Applewood Vegan Cheese which I bought from Tesco because it generally melts quite well. You could use a sprinkle of dairy-free ‘grated’ cheese instead.
Equipment
- chopping board
- sharp knife
- round pastry cutter (approx 8 cm)
- teaspoon for spreading sauce
- pastry brush
- ovenproof baking tray
Dairy-Free Halloween – Pizza Mummies!
Ingredients
- 1 pack of ready-rolled puff pastry
- 2 tablespoons of pizza sauce, tomato puree or ketchup
- 25g dairy-free cheese
- few olives, green or black (whatever you have)
- egg or a little dairy-free milk for glazing
- olive oil
Method
Pre-heat the oven to 220 C / Gas 7. Lay the pastry on a chopping board and cut out as many discs of pastry as you can. This will depend on the size of your pastry cutter. Cust around a small saucer, a plastic beaker or glass if you do not have a pastry cutter.
Spread a teaspoon of pizza sauce on each disc, avoiding the edges. Add a small amount of dairy-free cheese to each disc. Dampen down the edges of the discs with a little water. With the remaining pastry, cut thin strips and lay them on top of the discs to resemble bandages, leaving a few gaps between strips. They don’t have to be super neat as they are for Halloween after all! Press the strips down firmly onto the dampened base. Add olives for the eyes.
Transfer to a lightly oiled baking tray and brush with beaten egg or dairy-free milk as you wish. Place in the middle of the pre-heated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden in colour and cooked through. Allow to rest for a few minutes before serving as the filling will be hot. Can be served cold. Perfect for lunch boxes.

Dairy-Free Halloween - Pizza Mummies
Ingredients
- 1 pack Ready rolled puff pastry.
- 2 tbsp pizza sauce, ketchup, or tomato puree
- 25g dairy-free cheese
- olives a few black or green olives
- egg a little beaten egg (or dairy-free milk) for glazing
Instructions
- Pre-heat the oven to 200°C or Gas Mark 7.
- Lay the sheet of ready-rolled puff pastry on a board. Using a round cutter, cut out discs for the base of each pizza. The amount you cut will depend on the size of your cutter. I used an 8cm cutter and easily cut 5 bases with enough for 'bandages'.
- Spread about a teaspoon of pizza sauce or ketchup etc onto the centre of each disc, spreading it out with the back of the spoon. Do not spread all the way up to the edge. Leave about 1cm all the way around the edge of the base.
- Cut the dairy-free cheese into small, thin pieces, 1 or 2 cm square depending on the size of your base, and add a couple to the centre of each base.
- Dampen the edge of all the bases.
- Using the remaining pastry cut thin strips and lay on top of each base, leaving small gaps between each strip. Press down the strips at the edge of each base but don't worry if they hang over the edge of the base. These can be tidied up afterwards.
- Place the cutter back over each pizza to trim the edges of the pastry strips.
- Brush with a little beaten egg or milk to glaze.
- Bake for 15 to 20 minutes until cooked through.
- Add slices of black or green olives for the eyes.
- Serve warm. Or pop into a lunch box for school!
- Enjoy.
