So, it’s veggie week and I popped to our local store to see what Lidl dairy-free products I can find for our girls. We’re not vegetarians but thought it would be a good opportunity to find some dairy-free treats! I couldn’t help but bring a few things home to try!
As it’s Summer (I know it doesn’t feel like it today) my daughter’s primary reason for coming with me was to check out the dairy-free ice creams and desserts available. We came home with quite a haul. Here’s what we bought!
- Ben & Jerry’s – Cookies on Cookie Dough Non-Dairy Ice Cream
- Vemondo – Oat Ice Dessert. Strawberry. (May contain milk)
- Almondy Choco Delish – Chocolate cake and chocolate mousse with hazelnuts and coconut.
All three of the above were in the freezer section.
What other dairy-free items are there?
Well, there is a whole range of things to choose from
- There is a wide range of long-life plant-based milk in their Just Free-range, including Almond, Oat, and Soya. They sit alongside Alpro Soya Barista and Beleaf unsweetened oat drink and Alpro long-life chocolate dessert pots.
- In the chiller, we found large pots of Just Free plain, or vanilla soya yogurts as well as Alpro yogurts and an Alpro plant-based latte. Also in the chiller were Vemondo vegan spreads, but if I’m honest the flavours just did not appeal to us.
- I was interested to see they have vegan butter, in block form by Naturli (containing almonds) and several dairy-free kinds of cheese which according to the label, both melt. I’ll definitely be investigating both of them, a dairy-free cheddar style block from Vemondo and a Vitalite Dairy-Free block.
- I mentioned frozen desserts above and there is certainly quite a range to choose from. In addition to the Vemondo strawberry oat ice cream, there are two other flavours to choose from, cocoa or vanilla. Vemondo also offers coconut and chocolate ice cream lollies in several flavours, which are all labeled as vegan AND a coconut ice cream sandwich. WHOOHOO! My daughter was spoilt for choice and a bit bamboozled as to what to choose.

Further information
I mentioned that it is veggie week and it’s fair to say that Lidl’s offering is focused on vegetarians and vegans and there is a wide assortment of meat-free meals. It just so happens that part of their range happens to be dairy-free too, which is a HUGE bonus for us. For our family, our interest is purely dairy-free as my daughter cannot digest a lot of plant-based meat substitutes, but no reason why you should not check out what is on offer. I have posted the link to their weekly newsletter page where you can download the newsletter for 05/08 – 11/08 and have a look if you wish.
